Local Internship Portal Countdown to Launch!

October 23, 2015 - Local partnership brings philanthropy, business and education together to develop website for Business-student internships.

A partnership of local philanthropy, business and education interests, after working together for months, are nearing the launch date of the Monterey Bay Internship Portal.

Connecting local businesses with college-age students interested in filling internships (both paid and unpaid) is seen as an important step to boosting the economic vitality of the Monterey Bay region.

The website, being built by Iversen Design, is scheduled to launch at the start of 2016.

"We've invested the initial $30,000 for the design and launch of the site," said  CEO Lance Linares. "Our partners are busy working right now to come up with the funds needed to carry it forward," Linares said.

Businesses through the Monterey Bay region can post internship opportunities on the site that will initially target students at UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College.

The new website will supplement current services provided by the two schools by offering a one-stop shop for local internships.

"This is a great example of local innovation at work," said CEO Lance Linares.

Leaders from the Santa Cruz County Business Council, Cabrillo College, UC Santa Cruz, the Monterey Bay Economic Partnership and the Community Foundation are spearheading the project.

It's expected that others will be brought to the table as plans advance to expand the service to more businesses, colleges and universities throughout the Monterey Bay region.

Cabrillo College and UC Santa Cruz have begun recruiting businesses to post on the site when ready, with plans in the work on how to market and promote it to their students.

"Keeping the brain trust here is vital to the economic vitality of the region," said Linares.

Information about the Monterey Bay Internship Portal will be posted online as the date is set for its public launch.
