Senior Water Resource Planner
The Regional Water Management Foundation, a subsidiary of Community Foundation Santa Cruz County, is seeking an experienced planning professional to lead the development of a groundwater sustainability plan for the newly established Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency. The senior water resource planner will be an employee of the Community Foundation and will work in close coordination with staff from the groundwater agency. The development of the sustainability plan is anticipated to occur, approximately, over two years.
In response to California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency was established in 2016 to manage the mid-county groundwater basin. The agency is charged with assessing conditions in local groundwater basins and developing a groundwater sustainability plan to guide management activities. The agency consists of an 11-member committee comprised of two elected officials from Central Water District, City of Santa Cruz, County of Santa Cruz, and Soquel Creek Water District and three private well representatives. The agency is staffed through a cooperative arrangement with staff from the member agencies and administrative support from the Foundation. An executive team comprised of the director or general manager of each member agency and the Foundation’s program director is tasked with overseeing the completion of the sustainability plan, including providing direction to the senior planner.
The senior planner will play a key role in the development of the sustainability plan that outlines a course to achieve groundwater sustainability in the mid-county basin within 20 years. With direction from the agency’s executive team, the senior planner will have the principal role in the development of the sustainability plan.
