Support Access to Care in Watsonville

Pajaro Valley Healthcare District - Watsonville Community Hospital Fund

About the Fund

This fund was created to benefit a campaign advocating for community-led healthcare services by forming a health care district and purchasing Watsonville Community Hospital to transition it to community ownership and governance. The Pajaro Valley Healthcare District Project's mission to ensure the communities served have the high quality and sustainable healthcare services they need by placing local healthcare resources in the hands of the local people. PVHDP Board of Directors includes leadership representing Santa Cruz County, the City of Watsonville, Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley, and Salud Para La Gente.

Dr. Carmin Powell, Chair of the Pediatrics Department at WCH and founding member of Rise Together (pictured 2nd from right) says the fact that “community” is in the name of the hospital means a lot. Doctors, nurses, and staff live locally and receive care there themselves and patients are kind, thoughtful, and deeply appreciative of the care provided.

“We’re a safety net hospital and serve everyone, county wide–from Ben Lomond, Santa Cruz, and the Pajaro Valley–regardless of ability to pay. This transition gives us an incredible opportunity to come back to and strengthen these core values.”

- Dr. Carmin Powell, Chair of the Pediatrics Department, Watsonville County Hospital
