Responding to Gun Violence - Where to Give

(Photo: Bluebonnets, known as lupine in California, are the Texas state flower. We share this in honor of the children of Uvalde.)

Like you, the staff and board of the Community Foundation are struggling with the unbearable news of the Uvalde shooting, in wake of the Buffalo, Orange County, and hundreds of other mass gun violence events in our country this year alone.

Here are some resources that may be of interest as we find ways to support affected communities.

  • The San Antonio Area Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country have partnered to open the Uvalde Strong Fund and the Uvalde Strong Survivors Fund to support affected families and the nonprofits providing immediate and long-term support to the community.
  • The Hope and Heal Fund is a state-based fund investing in a public health, racial equity, and community-based approach to preventing gun violence in California.
  • Sandy Hook Promise was founded in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The organization works to help schools identify the signs of school violence, conducts research on best practices for school violence prevention, and advocates for state and federal laws to keep students safe
