The Ernest V. Cowell Scholarship

Background

Ernest V. Cowell (1858 – 1911) was part of a notable family that prospered after coming West during the California Gold Rush. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park was named after his father and his own name was
given to the Ernest V. Cowell Student Health Center at his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley. He started this fund in 1903, which the Foundation has administered since 1994.

Scholarship Opportunity

In 2008, a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,500 will be awarded. Recipients must attend a University of California campus the fall following graduation and proof of enrollment is required before the award will be paid. Award recipients are requested to repay the total award amount, which will be added to the principal of the endowment.
