Philanthropy means more than grants.
For us, philanthropy also means being an active participant in shaping the future of our community.
With you, we work to create a better future for all residents of of Santa Cruz County by identifying and addressing community issues and joining with local, regional and national partners to get the resources needed to make positive change.

August 12, 2010 – "I drive by this part of town all the time, but never thought about the people who live here," said Ralph Albert, one of the participants on a recent Foundation Road Trip.
On June 30, we invited donors, professional advisors and our own board members to join us and Yolanda Henry of Familia Center on a tour of Lower Ocean Street, Beach Flats, Sycamore Commons and Neary Lagoon.
"It's good to slow down and learn about parts of our community that have so many challenges," Ralph said. "It makes you see these neighborhoods in a different way."
Familia Center was founded in 1883 as a small health clinic to address the lack of accessible health care services for neighboring resididents. Sensitive to the needs of the largely Spanish-speaking residents, the center has evolved into a multi-faceted family resource center, with bilingual and multi-cultural programs.
If you would like to join us on a future Road Trip, e-mail Robin Larsen or call her at (831) 477-0800 ext. 208.

This year, the Good Times will be featuring the stories of individual volunteers and their work at local nonprofit organizations.
Earlier this year, we invited you to submit names and stories of great volunteers. From those, you'll see the stories of about a dozen in the pages of the Good Times.
E-mail Luis Chabolla or call him at (831) 477-0800 ext. 214 with any questions.

Similar to our 2005 study that profiled a nonprofit sector in the aftermath of the dot com bust, our 2010 reports show organizations in the midst of an even more dire economic crisis.
The Executive Summary, Sector Profile Report and Subsector Briefs Report provide a profile of our local nonprofit sector. They examine how organizations have been affected by the current recession and strategies being used to deal with a growing demand for services and increasingly limited resources.
