The Regional Water Management Foundation (RWMF) was established in 2007 by the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County as a separate 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. It has its own Board of Directors and staff, with an office located at the Foundation.
The RWMF provides the management and administration for the implementation of sixteen high priority projects in Santa Cruz County under a $12.5 million grant awarded by the State Water Resources Control Board’s Integrated Regional Water Management Program (IRWMP).
Last Mile, Watsonville Slough, Project 12
The grant is funded by the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002 (Prop 50), a state ballot measure approved by voters in November 2002.
The IRWMP funds the implementation of projects to protect communities from drought, protect and improve water quality, and improve local water security.
The selected projects were designated as high priority by eight partner agencies during the development of the Preliminary Integrated Regional Water Management Plan for Northern Santa Cruz County.
Integrating and coordinating water resources planning and management better enables local agencies and partners to address the range of serious issues facing the region's water supply, water quality and natural environment.
Implementation of the projects will occur between 2008 and 2011.
