Background

Barbara J. Thompson served as trustee on the Santa Cruz City Schools Board for many years and is a firm supporter of public education and the importance of making educational opportunities available to all students.  This scholarship was created in honor of her retirement from the board in 2002.

Eligibility Criteria

• Graduate of or a graduating senior from Santa Cruz, Soquel or Harbor High Schools
• Resident of Santa Cruz County for the last three years
• 3.0 grade point average (GPA)
• U.S. Citizen

Award Recipient Obligation

• Attend an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational school in the fall following graduation

Scholarship Amount and Duration

• Three $1,000 awards
• One scholarship award per school
