The Ernest V. Cowell Scholarship

Background

The family of Ernest V. Cowell (1858–1911) prospered after coming West during the California Gold Rush. Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park was named after his father and his own name was given to the Ernest V. Cowell Student Health Center at his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley. He started this fund in 1903, which the Foundation has administered since 1994. 
          

2010 Ernest V. Cowell Scholarship Recipient

Suzanne Wong graduated from Santa Cruz High School and will be attending the University of California, San Diego. She will major in Psychology.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduating senior from a high school in the Santa Cruz City School District
  • Financial need


Award Recipient Obligation

  • Attend a University of California campus in the fall following graduation


Scholarship Amount and Duration

  • One $1,500 award (repayment is requested upon ability after college graduation)


How to Apply

The 2011–2012 application will be available online after January 2011.
